Our Process

Our intensive three-stage process gives you the advantage of knowing that the right experts are working on your project to deliver translations of the highest accuracy and quality.

The Project Manager, your primary contact, makes sure your needs are fully understood. The Project Manager analyzes the documents you provide, and clarifies requirements, timetable and budget. The Project Manager will also respond to any questions or issues that arise during the process.
The Translators and any necessary technical support staff are selected by the Project Manager based on the nature of the subject matter and the type of technical background required. The Translators work closely with the Project Manager to generate translations of the highest accuracy.
Once completed, a specially-selected Editor proofreads, checks language usage and ensures the translation reads naturally—as if originally written in the target language. To confirm that the material reads naturally in translation, it is reviewed by an In-Country Reviewer to ensure that terminology and expressions are precise and up-to-date.

Client Testimonials

DML endeavors to successfully convey the meaning of the intended message and not just translate words. They incorporate specialists and work collaboratively to achieve the most accurate, geographically specific language articulation of the document needing translation.

The difference with DML is that your translation teams have an excellent grasp of English, which has been a major issue with other translators or agencies and obviously affects the quality of the translations… DML's typesetting division is without a doubt excellent. They know how to troubleshoot any issues and are professional in talking with our clients to make sure that the process is seamless.

I came to DML Translations when my client launched a new global company and needed a Chinese brand name, something that preserved the feel and the intent of their brand. They also needed it within 24 hours. This project demanded creativity, flexibility, and above all speed. DML Translations delivered multiple options, and we met our client’s needs in good time. I’d gladly recommend them for any multilingual marketing and branding needs.

Case Studies

After reading a New York Times article about DML’s work, IMG called us to see if we could do translations for their client, Volkswagen (VW.) VW was preparing a bid to sponsor the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. They came to us needing a translation of a 135-page proposal to be translated, proofread and typeset for delivery to the Chinese government, all to be done within 10 business days.

DML not only had to produce a flawless translation, but also coordinate multiple outside parties reviewing our work: VW’s legal and marketing advisors and their China office were all coming in with changes, sometimes changes that directly conflicted with each other. Our project managers deftly handled questions from clients working across three different time zones in Asia, Europe and the U.S.

In the end, we delivered a 133-page proposal on deadline to everyone’s satisfaction, and VW won their bid to be automotive sponsor of the Beijing Olympics.

Product developers at Kwikpoint came to us with a unique need: they had created a pamphlet meant to help disaster relief workers communicate with non-English speakers in emergency situations, using visual aids and phonetics. Along with major language groups, the pamphlet would have to work for emergencies in islands and small nations throughout the world. Initially, Kwikpoint came to us to get the document translated and typeset in 42 rare languages; that number went up as the project grew, until finally we were doing 54 languages.

The first challenge was finding qualified linguists, and coordinating with different time zones. Many of the languages were based in the South Pacific and Southeast Asia, which were on very different time zones than us. We worked nights with the linguists, and days with our clients.

Once we had the linguists, then came the difficulty of adapting all the languages to one standard phonetic system. Kwikpoint had a phonetic system, but couldn’t possibly spend their evenings on the phone for hours with each linguist working with them on adapting the phonetics.

So we innovated. Instead of having the client talking to the linguist to hear them sound out the words, we had the linguists record the translations, and we sent the audio as emails to the client. It worked out beautifully, saving everyone time and money, and overcoming the hurdle of our geographic distance.

In fact, this system worked so well that since then, the recording procedure has been adapted by Kwikpoint for every one of their projects since, and we’ve been a frequent partner of theirs in expanding their services worldwide.

General Atomics had been a client of DML Translations for years, and in 2013, they came to us with a unique opportunity: they’d just sold their innovative drone technology, the Predator XP, to the United Arab Emirates, and had a 41-page Powerpoint translation on the drone’s inner workings to be translated into Arabic for their clients.

Given how new drone technology itself was at the time, the Arabic translations were especially challenging. One of the challenges with technical translations is when the technology is so new that the words haven’t even been invented in the target language!

Our team was already strong on working with technology. We took the time to learn in-depth about the technology, working with the new terms, and collaborated closely with the client. Our team invented new words to adapt drone terminology into Arabic, keeping it accurate and comprehensible, so as to facilitate smooth communication between buyer and seller.

DML’s work contributed to a global partnership that has continued to this day. In early 2015, the UAE bought its third American-made defense system, again from General Atomics.
